Media: graphite and ink

Artist statement: In this series I explored my fear of the unknown and embodied it in the representation of a jellyfish. This creature hints at the enormity of the ocean/sub-conscious and how at times fear can feel like it will almost tear us to pieces. I’ve relied on this surrealist device to conjure psychological memories in the viewer – a visceral trace of a nightmare image. The basis of the drawing was inspired by Schiele’s artworks and his expressive use of line and serendipitous ink work. I have worked with each separately and then interwoven the two using Photoshop to layer separate images.
